NOTICE OF ELECTION

City of Dayton Municipal Election
April 19, 2023

To the voters of the City of Dayton, TN, notice is hereby given pursuant to TCA 2-12-111(a) that a Municipal Election will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2023, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Dayton North (Rhea County Welcome Center) Precinct, for the following offices:

Council Member (two seats)              four-year term

  • Individuals interested in running for these offices may pick up qualifying petitions at the Election Commission office during normal business hours.
  • Qualifying deadline for these offices will be at 12 NOON, Thursday, January 19, 2023.
  • The withdrawal deadline will be 12 NOON, Thursday, January 26, 2023.
  • The last day to register to vote in person or by mail postmark for the April 19, 2023, election will be Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

NOTICE TO NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY OWNERS

Non-residents of the City of Dayton who own real property may be eligible to vote in city elections. Non-residents who wish to vote in the April 19, 2023, election must register at the Rhea County Election Commission office not later than Tuesday, March 21, 2023, if they have not previously registered. Registration to vote in a city election requires proof of ownership of property (e.g., a deed or tax notice with the owners’ names). For more information, contact the Election Commission office.

The Rhea County Election Commission is located at 1475 Market St., Suite 102, Dayton, TN 37321, phone 423-775-7816, fax 423-775-7880, email rhea.commission@tn.gov.

The office is open Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The office will be closed in observance of the following holidays:
Christmas, Monday, December 26, 2022
New Year’s Day, Monday, January 2, 2023
Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 16, 2023
Presidents Day, Monday, February 20, 2023

NOTICE TO ELDERLY VOTERS OR VOTERS WITH DISABILITIES      

Any elderly voter (age 60 or older) or voter with a disability whose polling place is inaccessible may vote early, by absentee ballot, or at the election commission office on Election Day (TCA 2-3-109 (e)(1).

If voters choose to vote at the election commission office on Election Day, they must submit an affidavit to the election commission office no later than Saturday, April 10, 2023, stating that their designated polling place is not accessible. PHOTO ID REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL VOTERS                 

Tennessee state law re quires all voters voting in person to present a federal or a State of Tennessee-issued photo identification containing the voter’s name and photograph.
